Celebrity Zenith

Celebrity Zenith was a Horizon-class cruise ship built by Meyer Werft at Papenburg, Germany, and delivered in 1992 to Chandris Celebrity Cruises, the Greek-owned company that founded the Celebrity brand. As the second of the two Horizon-class ships, she carried forward the premium character her class had established, combining solid German construction with the elegant, service-driven onboard experience that distinguished Celebrity in its early years. She was registered at Valletta, Malta.

Zenith served Celebrity until 2007, when she began a long second career across a series of operators. She sailed for Royal Caribbean's Spanish subsidiary Pullmantur Cruises, then for the French-market brand Croisieres de France, working European and Mediterranean itineraries under those flags before passing to the Japanese peace-advocacy organization Peace Boat, which chartered older tonnage for its global voyages promoting international goodwill.

That itinerant career eventually gave way to layup. Zenith was laid up in Greece, out of service and awaiting a final disposition after years of hard use under multiple owners.

Celebrity Zenith's story ended in the ship-breaking yards of South Asia. She was sold for scrap and dismantled at Alang, India, in 2022, the world's largest ship-recycling center, closing the career of a ship that had helped build the Celebrity name three decades earlier before wandering through a succession of European and international operators. Her passing, together with the scrapping of her sister Horizon the same year, marked the end of the pioneering Horizon class that had launched Celebrity Cruises into the premium market.
